Embracing Transformation | Part I

The Alchemist uses the power of love as a tool for transformation

For the past 15 years the planet of profound psychological transformation, Pluto, has been in the heavy (Saturn ruled) earth sign of Capricorn. In this sign, Pluto’s focus is on discipline and ambition and how we exercise power in these avenues. It is interesting to consider how fiscal and material acquisition has impacted institutions, and how they have used power to obtain wealth.

In the past decade especially, it seems as if the middle class is disappearing. The disparity between the haves and the have nots has widened. For example, the biggest banks on Wall Street have accrued 1 trillion dollars of profit in the past ten years. The enormity of that level of profit in such a short time is almost unfathomable, but more interesting to me is that banks have held their reputations in spite of all the scandals.

Pluto also represents significant beginnings and endings to stages in our lives and in historical events that affect all of us. Pluto takes nearly 250 years to make one journey around the sun. Because of its unique orbit Pluto will stay in one sign for from 13 to 32 years. On January 20, 2024, Pluto left the sign of Capricorn after a 15 year residence and entered the sign of Aquarius.

The February new moon will be in the sign of Aquarius. New moons ask us to release the old and begin to embrace the new! This new powerful movement of Pluto coupled with the moon in Aquarius makes this a very potent time to release mindsets that have held us captive and stuck.  With the Moon in Aquarius, there can be a tendency to filter our emotion through logic.

As I am writing this, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Pluto are in the sign of Aquarius. This is a powerful time to do a major purging of old thoughts, old beliefs, old strategies, old points of view that have held you back in any way. If you can find where Aquarius resides in your astrology chart, you can have an even better understanding of where you can have a more focused transformation.

For example, I have Aquarius in the 8th house, with Chiron there. The 8th house can be seen as the house of spiritual transformation. It also represents legacies that are inherited from the past both materially and spiritually. What arises for me as Pluto moves into this 8th house space is how much energy around pain and trauma I inherited and passed on to my children, and how this pain has held me back from the power of my potential. I have been contemplating the need to release buried pain and let myself rise out of the ashes of this past. I acknowledge that I have grief work to do. There is the potential to heal the past as the present is healed. I can be the spiritual alchemist for my ancestry.

The ultimate task of the alchemist is to uncover the mysteries within. We are spiritual beings that are meant to rise above the limits of the physical, mental, and emotional states of consciousness, and become our truest selves. Complete devotion to the Creator, through love, is our greatest transformation.
